For Adjunct/Part-Time Faculty
From our founding as a formal teaching center, the Reinert Center has served adjunct/part-time faculty members at 性奴调教. Adjunct/part-time faculty members may access all of the services and most of the programs provided by the Center. Whether faculty are new to teaching or have many years of experience, we can provide support in key areas of instruction, assessment, course design, technology integration, and more. Services to individuals are provided only at the faculty member鈥檚 request and in accordance with our confidentiality policy. All services and most programs are provided at no cost to individuals.
Services
Adjunct/part-time faculty have access to the full range of the Reinert Center鈥檚 core services, which include one-on-one teaching consultations, instructional design and mentored online course-building collaborations, mid-semester focus groups with students, formative classroom observations, and formative feedback on course materials (e.g., syllabi, assignments, rubrics). To accommodate the particular needs of part-time/adjunct faculty members, some services can be provided virtually (such as teaching consultations by phone or video conference or asynchronous Small Group Instructional Feedback sessions). Programs
Adjunct/part-time faculty also may find several of our signature programs beneficial, though most programs involve participation in on-ground sessions, which may or may not be feasible for all adjunct/part-time faculty members. Those who are able to participate have found the following programs especially beneficial: the Certificate Program (helpful in understanding foundational aspects of effective teaching), the Ignatian Pedagogy Academy (helpful for those new to teaching in a Jesuit university), and the Culturally Responsive Teaching Academy (helpful for those who teach courses with large concentrations of international students). Adjunct/part-time faculty also often participate in programs like the Winter Institute, book groups, brown bag conversations, and online teaching seminars. Resources
The Reinert Center also provides a variety of web-based resources, which may be particularly appealing to part-time/adjunct faculty. These include our weekly blog, ; our brief Resource Guides; and other online resources for key topics such as inclusive teaching, Ignatian pedagogy, course design, and key information for those new to teaching at 性奴调教. Reasons to Engage the Reinert Center
Adjunct/part-time faculty across all disciplines and experience levels seek support from the Reinert Center. Here are some common reasons they do so:
- Discuss student ratings of instruction (or other feedback on teaching)
- Explore alternative methods of documenting teaching engagement and effectiveness
- Collect formative student feedback in time to make adjustments in the current semester
- Receive feedback on teaching philosophy statements and/or course/curriculum materials
- Understand evidence-based practices for university-level teaching
- Experiment with classroom and course innovations
- Develop effective online courses
- Engage in classroom-based research and scholarship
- Explore new ways of engaging learners in the 21st century
- Integrate technology into teaching with purpose and intention
