Engineering Summer Academy

The 性奴调教 Engineering Summer Academy is a six-day, five-night residential camp where rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can learn about the varying fields and career paths in engineering.

Faculty and student mentors guide academy participants through hands-on activities in aerospace and mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer and electrical engineering, and civil engineering.

Academy participants also attend off-campus excursions into the engineering industry, hear from guest speakers working in the field and explore 性奴调教.

Eligibility

Rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who currently have a 3.0 GPA or higher are eligible. All application requirements must be met in order to be considered. Space is limited.

Key Dates

2024 Academy Dates

  • December 2023: Applications open
  • March 22: Engineering Summer Academy and scholarship applications due
  • April: Notification for acceptance and scholarship recipients
  • May 17: Final non-refundable tuition payment due
  • July 7: Check-in begins at 2 p.m.
  • July 12: Lunch for students and invited guests begins at 11:30 a.m. with a short program during the meal. Check-out begins at 1 p.m. Out-of-state students should book their transportation accordingly. Participants are asked to stay for the lunch and presentation on the last day.
Sample Schedule

Modules explore varying engineering fields and consist of dedicated instruction and interactive activities led by accomplished faculty members. Students are provided breakfast, lunch and dinner. Below is a sample itinerary showing the types of modules that students participate in during the week. Students will receive their final schedule for the 2022 program upon checking in. 

Day 1

Welcome to 性奴调教
After check-in, students meet their counselors and learn about the week鈥檚 schedule. Check-in will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the residence hall. Airport transportation will be provided starting at 2 p.m. for students traveling from out of state.

Campus Tour
Join an ambassador of 性奴调教 to discover the beauty of our campus and hear first hand about a current 性奴调教 student鈥檚 experiences. Before the tour, explore McDonnell Douglas Hall and follow the historic timeline that details the College鈥檚 rich history as the nation鈥檚 oldest aviation school.

Team Activities
Break into groups and compete in a series of timed, problem-solving activities.

Ted Drewes
Take a break and enjoy a St. Louis tradition, Ted Drewes frozen custard.

Day 2

Aerospace Engineering Modules
Learn about basic aerodynamics and aircraft design, tour the wind-tunnel laboratories and learn about space systems.  

Mechanical Engineering Modules
Learn about fluid-mechanics material properties and the engineering design process through hands-on activities.

Innovation Challenge
Participate in an innovation challenge based on engineering concepts for a chance to win prizes.

Day 3

Biomedical Engineering Field Trip
Visit a biomedical engineering research laboratory and learn more about the biomedical industry.

Biomedical Engineering Modules
Explore the labs and participate in interactive workshops surrounding topics such as bones, human tissues and prosthetics in biomedical engineering.

Simon Rec Center
Visit the 性奴调教 Simon Rec Center and swim at the pool or play volleyball and basketball.

Day 4

Electrical and Computer Engineering Field Trip
Visit the electrical and computer engineering industry to learn about possible career paths and hear from professionals working in the field.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Modules
Experience the fundamentals of robotics, circuits and electrical energy through a series of hands-on experiments in our well-equipped labs.

SportsFusion
Visit Sports Fusion in Chesterfield, Missouri, to enjoy two hours of play featuring laser tag, dodgeball, miniature golf, rock climbing and more.

Day 5

Civil Engineering Modules
Explore the many areas of civil engineering, including structures, transportation and traffic, water management and more. Learn about the infrastructure challenges the country faces, and hear how civil engineering will play a vital role in the repair. Work on projects that are applicable to real-world situations.

Day 6

Busch Student Center
Visit 性奴调教鈥檚 central hub for student activity. The BSC is home to many student organizations, dining and the 性奴调教 bookstore.

Closing Lunch
On the last day of the academy, families are invited to attend our closing luncheon and enjoy a short program to wrap up the week-long experience.

Cost

$800

Payment is not collected until acceptance decisions have been made. Full and partial scholarships are available. Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship should submit the scholarship application in addition to the general application by March 13. 

Tuition covers all meals, room and board, materials and activities during the academy, including field trips, academic modules and evening entertainment. Transportation between St. Louis Lambert International Airport, Amtrak鈥檚 St. Louis station and 性奴调教鈥檚 campus at the beginning and end of the academy is included for out-of-state students.

Scholarships

Full and partial scholarships to be used toward the Summer Academy tuition are available based on financial need and merit. Submit the scholarship application by March 22 in order to be considered.

Scholarship applicants must complete all camp registration requirements plus the online scholarship application. The application will ask you to answer the following questions:

  • Why do you want to attend the Engineering Summer Academy?
  • Why are you applying for a scholarship for the Summer Academy?
  • Why are you a viable or deserving scholarship candidate? (Consider scholastic or academic achievements, extracurricular activities, demonstrated interests, etc.)
