Initially, all PGY-1s are directly supervised by a PGY-3 resident until a formal review of their ability to work more independently has been completed by the Clinical Curriculum Committee, typically around six months from the start of residency. At that point, residents are individually progressed to indirect supervision with direct supervision immediately available.
The goal of our program is for all PGY-1s transitioning to PGY-2 year are ready for indirect supervision.
