- Face-to-face Hospice Volunteer: AccentCare Hospice is seeking compassionate volunteers to help brighten the lives of our patients. Hope Lodges are free, temporary housing facilities for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment. They provide a home-like nurturing environment, so patients can get support from others going through the same experience. A cancer survivor’s recovery involves much more than medical treatments; it takes hope to heal. Hope Lodge offers the warmth and security of home in a setting where the love and encouragement of others enlighten and inspire guests. At Hope Lodge, guests rally around each other, building life-affirming connections and lifetime friendships.

Service Opportunities:

- Dining with Hope: A powerful volunteer program that allows, local groups and organizations an opportunity to provide cancer patients and their caregivers an opportunity to share food and fellowship, as well as a sense of hope and understanding at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.

- Front Desk Support: Assist our housekeeper in cleaning guest rooms, kitchens, and day rooms. Also tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows and many others.

- Game Night: Host a game night for the cancer patients and caregivers staying at Hope Lodge. We have board games, card games and bingo.

- Planning Guest/Patient Activities: Activities such as board games, crafts, movie nights. We are also always open for new ideas.

- Field Trips: Do you like to drive? You can take our Hope Lodge van and take guests on outings to places such as Zoo, Museums, theater, grocery stores, and shopping malls.

The mission of the of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.

Service Opportunities:

Mission Statement and Objectives:

At BJC Hospice, through compassionate care, we provide a circle of support that is centered on comfort, quality of life, and the individual needs of each patient and family we serve.

Service Opportunities:

- Home Visitor: Volunteers are needed to visit patients in the patient’s home to provide companionship, respite for the caregiver, help with housework, etc. Most visits take place on weekdays during the day. Having a car is required. Opportunities are limited.

- Inpatient Unit Volunteer: Volunteers are needed at Evelyn’s House, BJC’s 16-bed inpatient hospice facility in Creve Coeur. Volunteer duties include staffing the front desk, upkeep of the house, administrative duties, and occasional visits with patients. Having a car is required.

- Lumina Volunteer: Volunteers are needed for the Lumina program, which offers patients the opportunity to preserve the stories and experiences that define their lives. Volunteers help patients write letters to loved ones or create memory books, scrapbooks, videos, etc. Having a car is required.

Remote opportunities include:

- Blanket-Making: Volunteers are needed to make no-sew fleece blankets for adult patients in hospice. No sewing skills are needed, just the ability to cut fabric and tie knots. This activity is perfect for either a group project or working alone.

- Card-Making: Brighten the day of a hospice patient by making simple greeting cards. It makes a great project to do individually or as a group. All that’s needed is ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons.

- Veteran's Cards: Make a military veteran feel special in his or her final days by making patriotic greeting cards. The only materials needed are ordinary paper and markers, colored pencils or crayons. Stickers can be used as well.

Named after John Cardinal Glennon, the Archbishop of St. Louis from 1903 to 1946, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center first opened its doors in July 1956. - Patient Interpreter: Perform on-site and over-the-phone interpretation for patients, families, and health care providers who prefer to speak in their primary language, other than English. A volunteer interpreter renders all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting, to enable other parties to know precisely what each speaker has said. Provide simple translation and complete interpretation work requests as per protocol. Participates as a member of the health care delivery team, exercising sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality of employee and patient information at all times.

- Patient Navigator: (Bilingual proficiency required) Accompany and support patients/clients as they access the primary care and specialist providers within Casa de Salud’s referral network. Work to ensure health literacy and continuity of care for patients. Assist patients/clients with the completion of any required medical forms during appointments. Promptly upload navigator report after appointment to inform case manager of details about appointment.

- Mental Health Intake Specialist: (Bilingual Proficiency Required) Assist with over-the-phone Mental Health Intake Screenings in the newly opened Mental Health Collaborative. Record client contact attempts and completed screenings in electronic medical record. Participate as a member of the health care delivery team, exercising sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality of employee and patient information at all times. Experience/familiarity within behavioral health services/organizations preferred.

- Medical Scribe Internships: Work directly in office with physicians - 4 month minimum requirement.

- Adult ESL Assistant Teacher: Serve refugee friends in our community helping them build their language skills through conversational English, grammar, reading and writing as well as assisting with life skills.

- Ronald McDonald Family Room: The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a little oasis within our hospital families can spend time together away from the hustle and bustle of hospital corridors, busy waiting rooms and their child’s room.The Ronald McDonald Family Room Program offers two Family Rooms that provide a place to rest and regroup, just steps away from your child’s hospital room. Open daily, staffed by volunteers, this special space provides the comforts and cares of home for families of inpatients at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Amenities include a kitchen area with complimentary coffee, soft drinks and snacks, shower facilities, laundry areas, seating areas with TV’s, internet access, and quiet areas for napping. Volunteers welcome and orient new families to the room and rules. Ensure families are comfortable. Monitor and stock supplies. **Volunteersmust be 21 years of age or older for this opportunity.

- Hospital Buddy Program: Facilitates connections with international pediatric patients brought to the US for medical care.
