Midwest Consortium – Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (MW-IC CAE)

Increasing Student Success, Building Vital Partnerships, and Inviting Individuals to Become Part of an Intellectually Diverse, Active Learning Community as They Prepare for a Career in Intelligence

The Midwest Consortium - Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (MW-IC CAE) at ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì is a cross-institutional community of educators committed to facilitating collaborative relationships and training the next generation of intelligence officers.

Spanning geographic, socioeconomic and demographic boundaries, this partnership between urban, rural and historically black colleges and institutions — ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì,  and — will recruit and educate talented, diverse students interested in careers in the intelligence and national security fields.

The Midwest Consortium - Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence will provide the intelligence community with well-trained employees with a background in strategic intelligence and STEM. Graduates associated with the consortium will be able to solve complex problems while leveraging their diversity and life experiences and harnessing the skills and opinions gained through their different ethnic, racial, gender, and geographical backgrounds.

Midwest Consortium Goals

Student Services

Support all students in pursuit of their academic goals in intelligence/STEM degrees, and in doing so impact academic success, retention and graduation rates by:

  • Increasing students’ knowledge of intelligence and STEM curricula
  • Increasing access to and facilitating the use of resources by consortium partners
  • Assisting underrepresented and diverse students in developing the skills necessary to gain employment in the IC
  • Supporting student achievement by maintaining a scholars program
Student Impact

Engage in collaborative leadership with campus units and intelligence community partners to:

  • Integrate academic success skills and strategies into consortium events, initiatives and programs
  • Contribute expertise to departments, units and committees regarding intelligence/STEM issues and career opportunities in the intelligence community
IC CAE Development

Maintain high standards of excellence for program delivery by:

  • Enhancing the professional development of consortium faculty and staff, including graduate students and undergraduate students 
  • Engaging in data tracking, full cycle assessment, strategic planning and reporting to remain on the cutting edge of trends and information relevant to career placement within the intelligence community 
  • Fully meet the 10 objectives outlined in the Midwest Consortium - Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence  proposal
  • Focus on Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 203, Analytic Standards

A Mission of Ethnic, Cultural and Geographical Diversity

The intelligence community has recognized the importance of having a diverse workforce — both to ensure that it performs at its best and to ensure that it maintains the confidence of the American people. Yet despite varied and ongoing efforts to address diversity concerns, data shows disparities and challenges for many groups still persist.

The Midwest Consortium - Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence at ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì will strive to train a  workforce representing the full spectrum of diversity — including national origin, language, race, color, mental or physical abilities, ethnicity, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, identity or expression, socioeconomic status, veteran status and family structure.

Among other efforts, the consortium will work with ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì's Division of Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement (DICE) and affiliated centers to publicize events for faculty and students. Collaborating with DICE, the consortium will co-host diverse speakers related to STEM and National Intelligence. Additionally, a DICE representative will serve on the Midwest Consortium - Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence advisory board.
