ÐÔÅ«µ÷½ÌCare Orthopaedic Faculty to take on New Leadership Roles

Congratulations to Howard Place, M.D. and to David Greenberg, M.D. (pictured above respectively) on their new roles starting this upcoming January 1st. We are happy to announce that Place will be the new interim vice dean for clinical affairs (VDCA) and Greenberg will take over as the interim chair for orthopaedic surgery. 

Place is currently the Richard J. Kemme M.D. Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He received his M.D. at Saint Louis University and completed his orthopaedic surgery training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Place served as chief of orthopaedic surgery at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and chief of the Orthopaedic Surgery Service for the 47th Field Hospital in Desert Shield/Storm in 1990 – 1991. He joined the ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì faculty in March 1997.  He was appointed vice chair of orthopaedic surgery in 2008, became interim chair in 2017 and has been chair since 2019. His leadership has included being president of the ÐÔÅ«µ÷½ÌH Medical Staff and chair of the ÐÔÅ«µ÷½ÌH Governing Board. As interim VDCA, Place will be working to strengthen operations by partnering with HR and administration, working with operational leaders to optimize ÐÔÅ«µ÷½ÌH Bordley tower expansion and St. Mary’s optimization, supporting SSM/ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì G.M.E. processes, and improving communications between chairs and SSM.

Greenberg received his M.D. from Georgetown University, did his orthopaedic surgery residency at University of Missouri, and completed his orthopaedic oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago. He joined ÐÔÅ«µ÷½Ì in 2010, and is currently serving as the program director of the Orthopaedic Residency Program. In addition, Greenberg chaired the Cancer Committee and developed orthopaedic oncology curricula, gaining a wide reputation in musculoskeletal oncology.
